Counting Our Blessings: Reflecting on Thanksgiving

By Korryn & RMPR Staff

If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I love Christmas. I love every single thing about it. Quite literally, every. single. thing.

As a Christmas lover and profound early decorator, I come across a lot of ridicule for "skipping Thanksgiving." If you're one of these "you're skipping Thanksgiving!" shamers, then listen up:

I love Thanksgiving. I love the family time. I love the food. I love reflecting on what I'm thankful for. I'm not skipping Thanksgiving, I'm just celebrating it with more red & green decor than you are.

This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for growth and my family. When we started January last year, I had no idea this year would turn out how it did. Though some months were rough (and I mean rough) I am thankful for what those months taught me. I'm thankful for my family for standing by my side and holding my hand until I could pick myself up again.

I am also thankful for football. Yes, it sounds cliche, but with it being my little brother's senior year, I love the family time going to the football games, cheering loud for Antelope #66, and the occasional yell at the ref.

This year, I'm also looking back on how thankful I am for concerts. I've had the time of my life this year going to different concerts: Warped Tour, Fall Out Boy, and Taylor Swift just to name a few. We all know how thankful I am for Taylor Swift so I won't waste much time talking about that here ;)

See, I really do love Thanksgiving. So while I'm looking back on all that I'm grateful for, let's take a look at what the RMPR team is thankful for this season:

I am so thankful for many things. My team, our clients, and my family rates at the top of my list this year!

This time last year, I raved about my kitten/gremlin. Now, she’s a “big” sister to this pup who is quickly quadrupling her in size! It may be small and furry, but I am so thankful to my little family for keeping me grounded and teaching me patience above all else. Thank you to Johnathan, my forever boo, for wanting to put up with this for a lifetime (haha!) and being my #1 supporter for work, for school, and building our lives together. I’m thankful to TTU and the opportunity to continue my education, for the next year or so, and within that time, I will continually be handing out thanks to family and friends getting me through wedding planning. Lastly, and less cheesily, BANKING APPS for checking, savings, and credit. Highly recommend! I got through college without a credit line, but being able to track and transfer at my fingertips I’m less stressed about finances than I anticipated. Bank technology, my great credit score is thanks to you.

I’m thankful for family, because they are always so supportive and loving. I’m thankful for my friends because they make life so much more fun, I’m thankful for a job I love because it makes each day something new and enjoyable, and I’m thankful for my fiancé and animals because they’re amazing and fill my heart with so much love.

Ahhh Thanksgiving, the time of year where even your stretchy pants start to fit tight. But all feasting and face-stuffing aside I'm thankful for so much in my life. I'm thankful to be in Lubbock and a student at Texas Tech while working at a place I love. I'm thankful I have a family to go home to that is proud of what I'm doing. And although there's been rough patches this year, I'm thankful I came out the other side. I could go on about everything I'm undeserving of, but entirely grateful for, but I'll stop there...... Now pass the wine.

This Thanksgiving I am especially thankful for my close friends. They’ve stuck close by my side this entire semester and have helped me through several rough patches. I am also thankful for my time here at RMPR! Throughout this internship I have learned so much about Public Relations and have really loved getting to work with the staff here.
